A need to foster partnership between the corporate world and voluntary organisations to promote developmental activities in India was stressed by the workshop held recently on ‘Sustainable partnership.’ In response to a need to create enabling environment for promoting partnerships, Business and Community Foundation (BCF), New Delhi organised a two-day workshop in association with Bajaj Auto Ltd., at Yeshwantrao Chavan Academy for Development Administration (YASHDA), Pune.

About 25 representatives from companies, NGOs and bankers like NOCIL, Excel Industries Ltd, and many others participated in the workshop.

Mohan Dharia, former deputy chairman, Planning Commission and president of Vanarai while inaugurating the workshop said the NGOs and companies should jointly work in areas such as population control, wastelands and illiteracy.

Darius Forbes, chairman, Forbes Marshall Ltd, in his concluding remarks gave the example of Mitsubishi Toyota Foundation, an NGO promoted by multinationals in Japan. He said the foundation undertook research on of vehicular pollution in Japan and in 10 years, the pollution was reduced. He hoped such partnerships would also be promoted in India.
