An all-party convention on Marad, organised by the district leadership of LDF and UDF here today, sent out a stiff warning to the state against turning the latest round of rehabilitation into a mockery.

A resolution adopted at the meet extended full support to government efforts to support more than 400 families who fled following the May 2 violence. It also urged the government to deal sternly with Sangh Parivar attempts to torpedo rehabilitation efforts.

‘‘The government should carry out repair works on houses of refugees. It must ensure financial and emotional backup to all affected families,’’ it said.

Terming the Sangh Parivar’s demand for a CBI inquiry as politically motivated, the convention opined that such an inquiry has no significance with the Crime Branch chargesheeting the culprits involved and the state ordering a judicial inquiry into the sequence of events that led to the carnage.

Inaugurating the convention, CPM politburo member E.K. Nayanar warned the government that it would face the people’s wrath if it fails to complete rehabilitation before October 2, as promised. ‘‘If given power, I am ready to settle the rehabilitation issue within an hour. Any BJP-RSS worker who dares to block the process will find himself at Kannur jail,’’ he said.
