MUMBAI, Feb 5: Mukund Parmar, the Gujurat veteran, propelled Dena Bank to the first Western Region Inter-Bank cricket title, when they beat Union Bank by 16 runs in the final of the XIth Western Region Inter-Bank tournament, conducted by Bombay Mercantile Co-operative Bank, at the Wankhede Stadium, today.
Parmar scored an unbeaten 105 and figured in a 155-run partnership for the second wicket with Amit Buch (89) as Dena reached 264 for 3 in 45 overs. Union Bank made a gallant attempt to overhaul the score, but left-arm spinner Prashant Sawant kept a tight line to get rid of the tail. Former India captain Kapil Dev gave away the prizes.

Twice runner-up Rizvi College beat Jhunjhunwala by an innings and 92 runs to lift the Dr PT Solomon Shield and Laser Trophy in the Junior College Sports Association inter-college cricket tournament at MIG today. Resuming at 136 for six today, Jhunjhunwala were bowled out for 166 in their second essay. Tambe, Nirmala triumph
Defending champion and seventh seed Mahendra Tambe (Mumbai) beat former National champion Sanjay Mande (Thane) 25-5, 25-17 in the open singles final of the 34th Maharashtra State carrom championships held at Chiplun, Ratnagiri, recently.
