NEW DELHI, AUG 11: Parliament today approved the creation of a new Jharkhand state with the Rajya Sabha passing the Bihar Reorganisation Bill by a voice vote.

The Bill, already passed by the Lok Sabha, was approved after rejecting amendments moved by some members from rjd, Congress and bjd, an nda partner.

With the approval of this Bill, the Government has fulfilled its promise to carve three new states of Chhattisgarh, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand out of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
