PARIS, DEC 20: Top French magazine Paris Match on Friday stood by its `last’ interview with Diana, Princess of Wales, after her friends and advisors cast doubt on its authenticity.

The interview with Diana and her friend Dodi Fayed, whose author remains anonymous, was published by Paris Match 11 weeks after the pair died in a Paris car crash on August 31.

Michael Gibbins, Diana’s former private secretary, said: “We seriously doubt the authenticity of this interview.” And Richard Kay, a columnist in the Daily Mail and a close confidant of the princess, said: “If these really were her words, this wasn’t the Diana I knew.”

But a statement from Paris Match hit back at Gibbins’ criticism and insisted it had published the last interview Diana ever gave.

“His (Gibbins’) comments are not based on hard facts, and he is just voicing reservations over the terms and turn of phrase used by the princess,” the statement said.

“We do not know him and he has not tried to contact us. We of course stand firmly by our position,” the magazine said, repeating that it would keep the source of its interview secret.
