With a hat trick of wins under his belt this year, Grand Master Parimarjan Negi has set his sights on the title at the World Junior Chess Championship, getting underway in Turkey on August 3.

The 15-year-old, however, knows the job is easier said than done. “But it is important for me, and I am going to give my best shot at the title,” he said.

Negi will leave for Belgium on Monday for a training stint under Belgium-based Russian GM Chuchalov.

Negi said his strategy for the world meet would be to take the event like any other tournament. Admitting that the competition will be tough with over 100 GMs participating, the Delhi boy said he was ready for the challenge.

“Year 2007 was not as good as I expected. Still, I was happy to get back my concentration and raise the consistency level. But this year has been really good for me and starting from Luxembourg (in May) and Philadelphia, my confidence has risen a lot. I would like to carry the form into the meet in Turkey,” he added.

Asked about his next move, Negi said he would definitely want to be a Super GM. “I will have to get there and I know I have some way to go,” he said. Negi, with 2570 ELO points after the recent wins, will have to get 2700 to be a Super Grand Master.
