AMRITSAR, Aug 9: The Panther Division of Army today organised a run for Independence in which about 1500 persons participated including 300 women, 46 veterans and 300 children.

Major General Avtar Singh, GOC of Panther Division, flagged off the runners. Almost all officers of the Army and their wives participated in the race.

Deputy commissioner Amritsar Narinderjit Singh and his wife were among civilians who attended the event. A spectacular band display by Army followed prize distribution by GOC which symbolised the spirit of freedom.

Avtar Singh said run had symbolised the spirit of freedom struggle and national unity among the participants.
