July 3: The Sena-BJP government today set up a high-level committee headed by Energy Secretary Ashok Basak to examine the possibility of setting up a common grid for Maharashtra State electricity Board (MSEB), Tata Electric Company (TEC) and Bombay Suburban Electric Supply (BSES) Company to ensure smooth and uninterrupted power supply to the metropolis.
Talking to media persons, Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, who also holds the energy portfolio, said the other members of the committee will be MSEB’s technical director S G Kukde, BSES’ G Dua and TEC’s Maniktala. “The panel has been asked to submit its report within 15 days and the recommendations will be binding on all the organisations,” Munde said adding after the major power failure, a committee recommend corrective measures.
The panel felt that there should be a common power-grid for the three organisations so that in the event of failure of power supply by one other two can come to the rescue.
