NEW DELHI, NOV 11: The first national Judicial Pay Commission on Thursday recommended a uniform pay scale for judicial officers all over the country and constitution of All India Judicial Services (AIJS) for district judges.Commission chairman Justice K Jagannatha Shetty told newsmen here that the panel's report was submitted to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today.The report, if implemented, would put an extra burden of Rs 95.71 crore on the Centre, states and Union Territories and the Centre must share half of it, Justice Shetty said.The Commission, constituted in 1996 on the directive of the Supreme Court to determine service conditions of judicial officers and their pay structure, recommended pay scales of Rs 9,000-14,500 for civil judge (junior division), Rs 12,850-17,550 for civil judge (senior division) and Rs 16,750-20,500 for the district judge.While a pay scale of Rs 18,750-22,850 was recommended for the district judge (selection grade), the Commission also suggested a supertime scale of Rs 22,850-24,850 for the same.The Commission recommended that the subordinate judicial service should be renamed as state judicial service and the multiple cadre had been amalgamated into three uniform cadres of civil judges, civil judges senior and district judges.The chief metropolitan magistrates and chief judicial magistrates had been equated to the district judges and civil judges (senior division) respectively.
