CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: Haryana Finance Minister Sampat Singh today said that the state government has constituted a committee for the promotion of sports in the state. Speaking after inaugurating a badminton court at the Chandigarh Press Club here, the minister said, this committee would offer guidelines for a two-step scheme to solve problems faced at the nursery and senior level.The government would make all efforts to provide educational facilities at school and college level to the players and would eventually create job opportunities for them, he said, adding that this would help harness local talent and checking migration of sportspersons from the state.Singh further said the state government would spend Rs 14.50 crore during the current financial year for the promotion of sports, besides the prevalent cash prizes and scholarship to deserving players. Apart from this other incentives were being provided to boost their morale.Also, aged sportpersons were being given monthly pensions ranging between Rs 300 to Rs 700, the minister said.He said the coaches would be provided with regular refresher courses to take out the best in players and bring them on par with national and international levels. But recently during a function held here on Haryana Day, some of the state sportspersons who were awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award were given a raw treatment by the state government.
