He Was conspicuous by his absence. Joint Secretary (Technical and Management Education), V.S. Pandey, was not invited by HRD Minister Arjun Singh to attend the meeting with the IIM directors today. Through the meeting with the chairmen and directors, the man accused of terrorising the IIMs did not get another opportunity.

Keeping Government presence to a minimum, Singh had only asked Higher Education Secretary S.C. Tripathi to be present and to interact with the IIM directors. For the past few days, Singh had been gradually sidelining Pandey. Crucial files, especially those related to IIM, are reaching Tripathi and not going to Pandey as was the practice during previous HRD minister M.M. Joshi’s tenure.

Today’s decision to keep Pandey out was also a careful move taken by the minister to make the directors feel at home.
