MUMBAI, OCTOBER 22: Mangrish Palekar, the second seed, and top-seeded Sampada Shetye, both of Railways, emerged supreme in the men’s and women’s singles, respectively, of the Maharashtra State Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament at the PJ Hindu Gymkhana, on Saturday.

Palekar beat his doubles partner Vincent Lobo of Petroleum Sports Board in 40 minutes at 15-7 17-16, while Sampada endured a tough grind when defeating unseeded Meenakshi Wag 6-11 11-6 11-5 for the women’s crown.

In the sub-junior boys singles final, top seed Sagar Chopra beat second seed Rohit Sadani 15-0 15-5 in just 25 minutes. Saumya Padhye, the top seed, got the better of unseeded Jui Agaskar 11-4 11-3 to claim the sub-junior girls’ title.

Rangers top table
Rangers trounced East Indians 3-0 in their concluding fixture and topped the first phase of the 12-team NIIT-Sponsored Kalina Football League at the St Mary’s High School ground, Kalina, on Sunday.

Joe Lobo, George D’Lima and Neil D’Costa scored for reigning champions Rangers. The four who qualified for the Super League phase are: Rangers (29 points), Traffords (28), Indian Airlines Colony (23) and Air-India Colony (22).

A BRACE of goals by Kiran F, saw Versova Village Boys beat Lal Bahudar FC 2-1 in a MDFA Football League tie at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Saturday. Zubar scored for the losers.
