HARARE, March 23: Pakistan turned the game around and grabbed the initiative in the second Test against Zimbabwe today. The visitors had taken three Zimbabean second innings wickets before the home side could wipe out the first innings deficit of 77.Murray Goodwin and Andy Flower set about a recovery with an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 44 in 57 minutes to take the home team into the close of the third day's play on 82-3 after 37 overs. Goodwin and Flower were both unbeaten on 25 with Zimbabwe holding a narrow lead of just five runs with seven wickets in hand.Earlier a stupendous, record breaking ninth-wicket stand of 147 between Mohammad Waseem (192) and Mustaq Ahmed scuppered any hopes Zimbabwe had of taking a first-innings lead. Waseem, unbeaten on 96 overnight, batted for nine hours and 20 minutes and Mustaq Ahmed (57) totally demoralised the Zimbabwe fielders on a hot summer's day. They took the score from the overnight 190-8 to 334-9 in the middle of the second session, beating the previoushighest ninth-wicket stand against Zimbabwe of 97 betwen South Africa' Craig McMillan and Alan Donald four seasons ago.Twenty-year-old Waseem was last man out for a Test-best 192 when he was superbly held at mid-off by a tumbling Mpumelelo Mbangwa off Guy Whittall. The elegant right-hander, who came in at the fall of the first wicket the previous morning, was at the crease for 560 minutes, faced 407 balls and hit 23 fours. Waseem's previous best was 109 against New Zealand on his debut in the 1994/95 season in Lahore.Ahmed fell for 57, two short of his Test best, gliding Heath Streak to Campbell at second slip.SCOREBOARDZimbabwe (1st innings): 277Pakistan (1st innings): Saeed Anwar lbw G Whittall 15, Ali Naqvi c A Flower b G Whittall 13, M Waseem c Mbwangwa b Whittall 192, Inzamam-ul-Haq c and b B Strang 13, Y Youhana c A Flower b Mbangwa 9, Moin Khan b B Strang 12, Azhar Mahmood c G Whittall b Mbangwa 20, Wasim Akram c Rennie b Mbangwa 0, Rashid Latif c sub b B Strang 4, Mustaq Ahmed cCampbell b Streak 57, Waqar Younis not out 8.
