LONDON, April 2: The Pakistani delegation at the ongoing United Nations Human Right Commission (UNHRC) meeting in Geneva, has been cornered to explain serious human right abuses against Mohajirs and widespread custodial deaths in Sindh. The UN special rapporteurs, circulated by Muttahida Quami Movement, here categorically states that in the matter of discrimination and persecution of Mohajirs, the Pakistani authorities meekly acquiesce to political pressure and flout legal provisions.

The delegation, which over the last few years had been branding itself as champion of human rights in Kashmir, appears to be riding on the nerves, on the issue of racial discrimination against Mohajirs.

They have been on the defensive and are making desperate attempts to reconstruct the tarnished human right records of the successive regimes. To the utter discomfiture of the delegation, UN special rapporteur’s report highlights the comments made by former Pakistan President Farooq Leghari of widespread killings of Mohajirs inhis dissolution order of Benazir government.

She has also asked for an enquiry to be conducted on atrocities perpetuated on Mohajirs under former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and erstwhile government of Nawaz Sharif.
