Ruling out any patch up with Chief Justice Iftikar M Chaudhry, whose suspension sparked unrest in Pakistan, government lawyers on Sunday said that new charges would be filed against the judge in a day or two in the apex court.A second reference containing a new set of charges against the judge for acquiring a plot of land in Karachi by flouting rules as well as claiming fuel allowance with fake bills would be filed in a day or two, government lawyer Mallik Qayyum told reporters here. The new reference prepared by the secretary of the law ministry Mansoor Ahmed “substantiated” the allegations made in the affidavit of Chief of Staff of President Pervez Musharraf a few days ago, he said. The first reference was filed on March 9 soon after his suspension on charges of misconduct and misusing his authority. Chaudhry’s suspension sparked off a major political crisis for Musharraf regime and currently a 13-member full bench is hearing the judge’s petition challenging the reference of allegations. The news of new charges against the CJ came with the SC expected to announce its decision on the admissibility of Chaudhry’s petition tomorrow or some time next week.
