Dismissing a US go ernment report that its tribal belt bordering Afghanistan has become a “safe haven” for al-Qaeda, Pakistan on Wednesday said the action taken by it against “militant elements” showed its commitment to the fight against terrorism.

“Pakistan is not an al-Qaeda safe haven,” Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said. “Our close cooperation with the international community in the war on terror is ongoing.” “Exchange of information and intelligence-sharing is an important part of this cooperation,” he told Dawn News TV channel.
