Leander Paes remained the lone Indian hope at the French Open tennis tournament after Sania Mirza lost her doubles match at the Roland Garros in Paris today.

Paes and Nenad Zimonjic continued their sturdy march after steamrolling local pair Nicolas Devilder and Marc Gicquel 6-1, 6-3 to reach the men’s doubles third round. In their opening round the Indo-Serb pair had defeated Florian Mayer of Germany and Rogier Wassen of the Netherlands in a three setter 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Sania’s campaign, however, came to an end when she and her Russian partner Anna Chakvetadze were beaten 4-6, 7-4, 6-2 by 16th seeds Chinese Zi Yan and Jie Zhang.
