NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 26: The Department of Information and Technology, Government of Karnataka, on Tuesday organised a curtain raiser to Bangalore IT.com 2000 exhibition, which is scheduled to take place in Bangalore in November. Vivek Kulkarni, IT Secretary, Government of Karnataka and Dewang Mehta, President, Nasscom were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Kulkarni, Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Karnataka, said "Out of the 22 SEI CMM level-5 companies in the world, 12 are located in Bangalore. The city has more than 75,000 software professionals and has emerged as the IT capital of the country. We invite everybody to be a part of the biggest IT show in Asia".The "future" IT revolution will be showcased in this event which is going to be for 5 days. Bangalore IT.com is the largest forum of B2B and B2C interaction on IT in Asia. This makes this event the best place to share the concepts with the rest of the world. Highlighting the phenomenal growth of IT in Karnataka, Nasscom President Dewang Mehta said "Karnataka has shown one of the highest rate in IT sector. We encourage investors to go to Karnataka and Nasscom is also organising a conference on entrepreneurship in close association with the Department of Information Technology, Karnataka during the Bangalore IT.com 2000 event. Bangalore IT.com has attracted strong international participation, starting with USA - the partner country for the show. Over the last two years, the event has received good response from major IT companies across the world. Slated this year from November 1 to November 5, 2000, the event this time has attracted IT giants like Infosys Technology, LG, HP and Microsoft. Dr Reddy, Director Information Technology, Government of Karnataka, B V Naidu, Director STPI, Vivek Kulkarni, IT secretary, Government of Karnataka and S V Ranganath, Secretary to CM are among the prominent organisers of the event. Last year over 250 companies participated in the exhibition. This year over 300 companies will be participating in the exhibition to display the high-end technology used. The venue is in the heart of the city palace grounds, with 11 focus pavilions spread over 7,500 sq. In the five days there are number of conferences organised focusing on various tracks like technologies of the future, entrepreneurship & venture capital financing and IT for the common man. Latest technology theme sessions on Bluetooth, WAP, Broadband etc have been arranged. As a part of IT for the common man, an IT quiz has also been arranged for the rural students of Karnataka. The Government of Karnataka has also set up a task force involving top it heads in the state. The task force, headed by Narayan Murthy, Chairman, Infosys, would ensure the leadership status of Bangalore as IT power. The government has also launched "Mahiti"- the millennium IT policy that aims at taking IT to the common man.
