Sidelined by the BJP, the party’s former Uttar Pradesh chief Vinay Katiyar is now penning a book. And, its contents are bound to embarrass senior party leaders, including A B Vajpayee and L K Advani, especially on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue.

Consider this extract from the yet-to-be-completed book: ‘‘The NDA government repeatedly changed its policies at the time of shiladaan to make it a flop show. It caused an environment of uncertainty among Ram Bhaktas. It was only because of Mahant Ramchand Paramhans Das that the shiladaan could be completed on March 15, 2002. But this was a face-saving exercise while the NDA government tried everything in its capacity to put it off.’’

While Katiyar declined to reveal any details about the book, written in Hindi, he told The Indian Express that it ‘‘will have various observations that I had made during my tenure as party chief (for two years) about different aspects of politics.’’ He admitted that he would be writing about the NDA government and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. The book is expected to be out in six months.

While senior BJP leaders here declined to comment on Katiyar’s book, sources said this ‘‘anti-NDA book’’ is part of Katiyar’s desperate effort to swing to the VHP camp.

The anti-Katiyar lobby in the party terms the book as ‘‘Katiyar’s anxiety to once again carve a place for him in the political world’’.

Sources said that the book has a 20-page chapter sub-titled as ‘Ram Janmabhoomi v/s NDA government’, devoted to strong criticism of the NDA government for not letting the temple movement pick up.

They added that the book will also focus on how the NDA government helped turn the temple movement into ‘‘a flop show’’. It is learnt that Katiyar has also levelled charges against some senior party leaders in the book.

The book will have a separate chapter on BJP’s alliance with Mayawati too.
