The Rajasthan Police would soon arrest Orissa DGP (Homeguards) B B Mohanty for allegedly shielding his son Biti, a rape case convict who had jumped parole, state Home Minister G C Kataria said here today.

The state police were working on a strategy and very soon, the DGP would be arrested, he told PTI here. Asked when a Rajasthan police team will go to Orissa to arrest the DGP, Kataria said, “I cannot divulge details at this stage. All I can say is that the police are working on a strategy to arrest the DGP and he will be arrested soon.”

On media reports that the grandmother of Biti Mohanty had written to the Rajasthan Chief Minister to transfer the case to Orissa, the Home Minister said, “I cannot say what they have written to the chief minister. But, I have faxed documents to the Orissa Chief Secretary for taking action against the DGP.”

An FIR had been filed against the DGP for allegedly shielding his son who jumped parole a month ago after he was awarded life imprisonment for raping a German tourist in Alwar. Biti, the 24-year-old former MBA student, was convicted in March last year by a fast-track court.

Meanwhile, Biti’s 82-year-old grandmother has requested him to contact the family immediately. “Please contact us wherever you are, we will try to help you,” Radharani Mohanty told mediapersons.

“All of us are going through a lot of pain and anguish. We don’t have any idea where he is. I have not seen him since long,” she said over telephone. Biti’s mother has been suffering from high blood pressure and “all we want to tell him is please contact us,” she said.
