Opposing Sonia Gandhi was not the only objective behind forming the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), its president Sharad Pawar said on Wednesday.
“Our main issue was centralisation of politics,” said Pawar who was the guest editor of Maharashtra Times.
In a discussion with the daily’s editorial team, he expressed these views when asked if the basic purpose of forming the NCP had become irrelevant Gandhi declining the Prime Ministerial chair.
Pawar said he would not be surprised if the next government at the Centre lasts only for a year or so.
“The days of single party domination are over. We are witnessing the era of alliances since 1991 and the situation will be same in the next decade,” Pawar said.
Regional leaders play an important role at the Centre, he said.
