An opposition alliance headed by PML-N party of exiled former premier Nawaz Sharif on Friday said its members in Pakistan’s national and provincial Assemblies would resign on September 29 in protest against President Pervez Musharraf’s bid to seek re-election in uniform.
The All Party Democratic Movement (APDM), which also includes the Islamic Muttahida Majlis-e Amal alliance and Tehrik-e-Insaf party of cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan, said its lawmakers would resign to deny credibility to Musharraf’s re-election.
PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq along with MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Khan said they would hold demonstrations on September 27, the day Musharraf is expected to file his nomination papers.
