ONGC sponsors handicrafts project for tribal women

VADODARA, Jan 17: ONGC, Western region as part of its socio-economic programme has sponsored a project on `Skill Training and Income Generating Activities in Bead Works and Cane Works’ for tribal women in Chhotaudepur which is being conducted by the Shroffs Foundation Trust, an NGO working amongst the tribal and rural communities. On January 12th, A K D Chowdhary, GGM (Tech), J B Bhaya, GM (P&A) and G Natarjan, deputy general manager (Mech) visited Rangpur at Chhotaudepur to gauge the progress of the project. The tribal women had displayed a variety of handicrafts which were appreciated by those present. A demonstration class in beadwork was in progress and nearly 30 tribal women were learning this craft.

Drawing contest: To inculcate the practice of energy conservation and as part of the Oil Conservation Fortnight celebrations, a drawing competition was held in Baroda High School, ONGC. About 148 children of std I to VII participated in the contest and made colourful paintings on their understanding of `Oil Conservation and its Significance.’ During the fortnight, a team of ONGC officers will be visiting a village near Vadodara and demonstrate some simple techniques which can be adopted by the villagers to help in energy conservation. Emission checking of vehicles will also be conducted during the fortnight to check wasteful combustion of fuel and also control environment pollution.

Cricket tournament: The 26th ONGC inter-regional cricket tournament will be conducted at Ankleshwar project from Jan 18 to 24th. Six teams representing different regions of ONGC will take part in the contest. Jauhari Lal, Director (personnel) will inaugurate the tournament at the ONGC sports Pavilion in Ankleshwar.

Bhogali Bihu celebrated: Bhogali Bihu was celebrated with fervour and gaiety at the ONGC Community Centre on January 13. A large number of employees and their family members belonging to the north-eastern states of India participated in the programme. Besides, a cultural programme of dance and music was also held.
