CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: One-sided contests were witnessed on the inaugural day of the Haryana Mini Open Badminton Championship which commenced at the Community Centre, Sector 7, Panchkula today. Apart from lacklustre encounters, confusion prevailed as the organisers failed to chalk out the draws for the first day on time. However, they managed to conduct matches in the boys (under-16) section, running well behind the clock. The participants had to run from one end to another to know whether their names were in the opening rounds.

Moreover, line judges too were not deputed for the matches. The organisers of the meet, District Badminton Association, Panchkula, were also short of qualified officials. The matches were being officiated by players themselves.

More than 100 players, including girls, are participating in under-13 and under-16 sections.

Tomorrow, matches in the girls section would begin at 6.30 a.m., while contest in the under-13 boys group would start at 9 a.m.

The evening session would commence at 4 p.m.
