on SC’s quota verdict

The Dainik Hindustan says it’s premature to predict who stands to gain most from the Supreme Court’s verdict on reservation in the next parliamentary elections. But the issue of reservation, it says, has reached a point where it has to be separated from politics. “This is the right moment to say good bye to the politics of reservation, but it is easier said then done. Reservation is an admission of failure to provide higher education and employment for all.

Dainik Jagran has questioned the wisdom of political parties and politicians expressing dismay over the exclusion of the creamy layer among OBCs. It says that if the creamy layer among OBCs are not excluded, then the extremely backwards among the OBCs would remain deprived of the benefits of quota.

Hailing the SC verdict as historic, Amar Ujala says implementing the concept of creamy layer among OBCs would be the biggest challenge before the UPA government.

Rashtriya Sahara hopes that the SC verdict would put the reservation controversy to rest. However, the paper says rumblings over reservation would continue as the SC had provided for the exclusion of creamy layer.
