Vijay Mallya’s annual party in Goa was apparently quite a damp squib.

Despite a high-spirited Subbirami Reddy, Mani Shankar Aiyar and Yuvraj Singh and Kim Sharma attending, there were murmurs of how though the once much-awaited party has been losing its popularity slowly, it particularly lacked in star value this year. Apparently, it has become such a marketing event that those who are Kingfisher Airline Gold Card members get an entry card.

Goa, however, still remained the hot venue for celeb-spotting over the new year weekend.

Though the King Khan was not seen in Goa on the night of December 31 — he had to be back at Mannat because wife Gauri was throwing a new year party of her own — he did make an appearance with Parmeshwar Godrej at the Malini Ramani show a few days before. The buzz going around is that glam Pam has ditched the A list for the K camp. The socialite and King Khan have become great buddies, with Godrej, who helped do up his home, even helping him choose his wines.

But the king of invitations which had all the socialites in a tizzy was the impromptu one that came from Mukhesh and Nita Ambani. Ambani’s sister Deepti and husband Raj Salgaonkar, who live in Goa, also sent out SMS invites to their friends, inviting them on behalf of the Ambanis.

And we hear that there was quite a wannabe war on. The place to be seen staying at over the weekend was the Taj Village — which cost Rs 40,000 a night and where the profile of the guest was checked out before they were booked in — and the buzz is that Salman Khan and

Katrina were among those who checked in. However, there were quite a few socialites who, while staying in shacks in Goa, told their friends to not reveal their whereabouts, instead let on that they were booked into the Taj Village! How’s that for status anxiety in the p3p world?!
