NEW DELHI, January 31: Doctors working under the Delhi government will now get conveyance allowance for attending to patients when off duty. Delhi Health Minister A.K. Walia announced this on Saturday, adding that the scheme would come into effect from February 1 and benefit around 1,800 doctors who fall under the CHS category.

The allowance will, however, be given only to those doctors who live beyond a one-km radius of a hospital. Doctors who have cars will be paid Rs 1,650, those with scooters or motorcycles will get Rs 540 and those without vehicles will be paid Rs 450 per month. Under this scheme, a patient who is serious can also call up a doctor and ask him to come over to his or her house from the regional dispensary, Walia said.
