BANGALORE, July 25: Jockey Mallesh Narredu steered Octogonal to a narrow win over Regal Equity in the 1800 metres Justice Cup, a sweepstakes race for four-year olds and over, the feature event of the races held here on Saturday.

Octogonal who had reeled off two wins in a row in impressive fashion was quoted at cramped odds, with Regal Equity second in demand. With the two having clashed a few times before, and the result of the outcome being more or less even, the races was expected to produce an exciting finish. What went against Regal Equity was the extended trip of 1800 metres which suited Octogonal more. In two classics, Regal Equity had beaten Octogonal over a trip of mile.

In a slow run race, Lunar Music set the pace, followed by Solo Act, Regal Equity and Octogonal. Jockey Satish Narredu on Lunar Music increased the pace around the 800 metre marker by surging into an eight length lead which made Aslam Kader to hasten his move on Regal Equity.

Lunar Music came into the straight a couple of lengthsclear of a hotly-pursing Regal Equity, with Octogonal too having moved up rapdily. Regal Equity went ahead but he could not sustain as Octogonal nosed ahead close home, in the process slightly hampering the former. Surprisingly, jockey Aslam Kader did not take any obection for tightening him on the inside.

The long drawn card of 12 events turned out to be as tricky as expected. The results with the dividends paid at Pune and Mumbai.
