In a climbdown from his earlier stand, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Diocese Archbishop Raphael Cheenath on Wednesday said the nun who was allegedly raped in Kandhamal on August 25 would assist the CID in test identification parade. The 29-year-old nun worked as an administrator with a Kandhamal-based pastoral training centre of the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Diocese. Cheenath’s change in stance came after the Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate Court (SDJM) in Baliguda of Kandhamal served a notice on him to present the nun on November 10 for the test identification parade. The court notice was served at the address of Raphael Cheenath as she remained untraced. The Supreme Court, in its order on October 22, had also asked the nun to assist in the probe. The nun, however, told a media conference in New Delhi on October 24 that she did not have faith in the Orissa Police and demanded a CBI probe. Cheenath, however, demanded that the parade be held in Delhi as the nun would not feel safe in Kandhamal.
