Comatose National Security Guard commando, Surjan Singh Bhandari, will be shifted to Delhi within 15 days, stated a fax received from NSG headquarters by Superintendent (Civil Hospital) Dr Anil Chadha here yesterday.

The announcement comes a day after The Indian Express reported the delay in shifting Bhandari to New Delhi.

Confirming that they have received orders to transfer 25-year-old Surjan to AIIMS, Dr Chadha said: ‘‘We are ready. All his papers have been kept ready by the concerned doctors.’’ All arrangements at AIIMS were being made by NSG officials. A team of doctors from Civil Hospital will go to Delhi. His brothers Kanchan and Surjeet will also accompany him.

Doctors at Civil Hospital informed that a portable ventilator will be used during Surjan’s transfer. Surjan’s younger brother Surjeet said, ‘‘He might be shifted on September 25, after the first anniversary of Akshardham.’’ The commando’s family had been pressing for his transfer as it was convenient for them to travel between Delhi and Uttaranchal, where they reside. ‘‘We are glad that it has been accepted by NSG director R.H. Moosahary,’’ said Kanchan Bhandari. The duo plan to bring their mother to Delhi after the transfer. ‘‘She is eager to see Surjan,’’ said Kanchan.
