The officer in-charge of Phulwaria police station here has been suspended in connection with the alleged assault on a candidate for the Block Development Committee chief’s post by RJD MP and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s brother-in-law Sadhu Yadav on June 29.

Officer-in-charge Ajit Kumar Singh has been made a co-accused in the case for staying put at the police station instead of going to the venue of the election where Yadav allegedly assaulted Dinesh Sah, a candidate for the post.

While the officer has been suspended, he had recommended the suspension of sub-divisional officer Parameshwar Ram and DSP Shanker Jha to the State Election Commission on charge of dereliction of duty.

The election for the post following the incident and Sadhu Yadav’s entry was barred into the district till July 3.

An arrest warrant was issued against Sadhu on June 29 but the MP is yet to be traced.
