Chhattisgarh leader and former Union minister V.C. Shukla is likely to quit the BJP, which he had joined just a few months ago. He had contested Lok Sabha polls from Mahasamund constituency on the party ticket.
When that happens, Shukla will break his own record of sorts in shifting loyalties here. There are strong possibilities of Shukla returning to the NCP. He had quit the party led by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar after it entered into an alliance with the Congress for the Lok Sabha polls.
In the last elections, Shukla, 75, was defeated by former CM Ajit Jogi. Despite a near-fatal accident, Jogi defeated Shukla in this prestigious seat by a huge margin. This came as serious blow to Shukla since he was the lone BJP loser in the state. Rejected by his constituents and allegedly disgraced by the BJP, Shukla is consulting his supporters on the return to the NCP. He is also understood to have held a few rounds of talks with Pawar to iron out differences. ‘‘Pawarji has lots of respect for Shukla and has always treated bhaiya (Shukla) as a close associate,’’ said a Shukla loyalist.
