The parrot trained by an orchestra master to chant ‘‘RJD Zindabad’’ at Laloo Prasad Yadav’s poll meetings in the past, switched sides to JD(U) along with its master and sang paeans to NDA chief ministerial candidate Nitish Kumar.

The trainer, Mausmi, with his parrot sitting on his wrist joined the JD(U) in the presence of Kumar at a party’s function. While Mausmi was garlanded by Kumar, the parrot flew and sat on Kumar’s wrist and chanted ‘‘Nitish zindabad’’ much to the joy of a large number of people who had gathered at the S K Memorial Hall here.

Asked how the parrot had deserted the RJD, Mausmi claimed that the parrot started chanting ‘‘Nitish Zindabad’’ on its own, without any provocation.

‘‘It seems that the parrot realised its mistake of eulogising the RJD for all these years and that is why it had stopped praising that party,’’ he said.

When Nitish Kumar was asked for his comments on winning the parrot from Laloo, he said, ‘‘Animals are very sensible. They have their own way to distinguish good and bad.’’
