He IS considered one of the most dreaded criminals in western UP, and is allegedly involved in more than two dozen cases of murder, dacoity, and kidnapping for ransom.

He was also once detained under the National Security Act . But, in the ongoing poll season, Pal Singh Virk aka Lakadpala seems to have had a change of heart. Lakadpala announced yesterday that he would be involved in ‘‘social service’’ for the poor and the downtrodden.

Allegedly involved in the murder of Janata Dal legislator Mahender Singh Bhatti at Ghaziabad in 1992 along with D.P. Yadav — who joined the BJP on Friday — Lakadpala has already spent more than seven years in prison as an under trial in many cases slapped against him by the governments of UP, Uttaranchal and the Haryana police.

Lakadpala yesterday said that he has been involved in ‘‘social service’’ all these years and now is the time to go to the public. He added, he is also keen to join politics to further his aim and objectives.

Asked about his criminal record, Lakadpala claimed that he is innocent. He said that he has falsely been framed by the police in various cases.
