There is no sign of the spat between the Congress and BJP ending soon with L K Advani on Sunday slapping back the “maut ka saudagar” (merchant of death) phrase on the UPA Government at the Centre.

Addressing a public meeting in Chamba, Advani said the UPA Government at the Centre was the real maut ka saudagar as it had failed to curb terrorism in the country and the people were living under terror threat. “Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is not a merchant of death, rather the Congress-led UPA is one as it has not taken effective measures to check the entry of terrorists. The terrorists have not even left the national capital secure and now the common man across the country feels insecure,” said Advani, who was speaking at an election rally here.

Advani said the Congress had always practised the politics of vote bank, for which it had even overlooked the Supreme Court’s order of capital punishment to Afzal Guru, an accused in the Parliament attack case.

“Before calling someone a merchant of death, the UPA should know that still many people continue to be killed in several incidents of terrorism attacks,” he said.

He said that the Congress rule in Himachal was marked by “widespread corruption” and “dishonest governance”, which increased the miseries of the people.
