Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen is expected in Sri Lanka at the next weekend in a bid to revive the island’s faltering peace process, diplomats said on Sunday.

They said Helgesen will try to take forward the process amid fears that the country could slip back to war following the recent suicide bombing and an escalation of attacks in the island’s east. Helgesen’s bid follows the suicide bombing here which killed four policemen in an attack believed to have been aimed at a government minister opposed to the Tigers.

The LTTE denied involvement but the attack had all the hallmarks of a Tiger suicide bombing and a message to the Colombo government to stop support to renegade rebel leader Karuna. —(PTI)
