Kiran Karnik head of India’s leading information technology trade association, NASSCOM, in a short talk to Ashok Kumar of Expressindia.Com tells how the Economy of India will replay its last year’s show and the role of IT sector.

How do you foresee the performance of Indian economy this year?

The Overall picture of the Indian economy seems good this year too and seems we will repeat last year’s feat without any doubt.

What role will IT play in this good growth?

IT sector like last year will continue to play its important role in the development of Indian economy this year also, there are no doubts about it. As you will see many software parks are coming up in near future paving way to more jobs for the people of this country as well as enhancing the Indian share in the global pie in the field of Information Technology. All these positive changes will have a very good impact on the economy.

What other factors could help us in our better growth?

The economies of US and Europe are doing well too, which is a good sign for our country as well and will help us boost our economic growth. India is already marching on the economic growth with a fast pace and no body can stop this pace in the near future. Indian IT should try its best to retain the show, which they are carrying on since quite a few years. Complacency should not come before us at any step.

Today we are witnessing a strange situation vis-à-vis the IT sector, which is grappling with a shortage of human resources, while ironically the number of unemployed youth in the country is increasing day by day?

Yes, that is very true and we are taking many steps to address this problem. There is a need of radical change in the school curriculum of the country, which will help in solving this type of problem of unused human resource. We are trying our best to highlight this unique problem before the government and will try our best to address in whatever way we can do.

Moreover it should be ensured by our education system that the youth should have some technical know-how before finishing their schooling, so that there is no dearth of opportunities for them on one hand and the industry is also having enough manpower to carry on the desired momentum of growth. I see a healthy development of Indian entrepreneurs and this is a good sign for our country’s growth. It is the need of time that we encourage more entrepreneurial firms that are professional to the core and are efficiently able to compete globally in the world markets.
