Hitting back at UP CM Mayawati over Bundelkhand, the Congress on Tuesday said, the party and its leader Rahul Gandhi have brought the backward area of the state on the map.
“It is like carrying coal to Newcastle…Are they aware that during the recent governments, the allocations to UP have been unprecedentedly high and there were no Congress governments there. And surely these were meant to be used for Bundelkhand also,” said Abhishek Singhvi, AICC spokesperson.
“And it has certainly been the Congress and the visits by Rahul Gandhi that have brought it on the map. So certainly, nobody can be more concerned than us,” he added.
Singhvi, who did not name Mayawati, said instead of following a hidden, political agenda on Bundelkhand, there should be a constructive, positive approach to the issues of the people of Bundelkhand.
“Certainly, if there are constructive suggestions, we will look at them and wherever there is scope for improvement, we will do it,” he said.
“There is a Finance Commission. Certainly, all suggestions can be sent to the Finance Commission,” Singhvi said.
He noted that, the Government had started schemes for the welfare of the backward areas such as the Backward Area Development Fund, that was meant specifically for regions like Bundelkhand.
