A day before the India versus Uzbekistan game at the Ambedkar Stadium, the venue had a deserted look. The only reminder of the match tomorrow was an obscure banner outside the Stadium.

After straining one’s eyes one gets to know that the international game kick off at 3:30 pm. But there are many who have missed this banner. The die-hard fans from the Old City, who turn up in hundreds for even local club matches, too are unaware of big time soccer coming to their neighbourhood.

Ask the DSA officials about the lack of publicity and they blame it on inadequate funds, media coverage and their perpetual bete noire cricket. And with this being a cricket week on television it remains to be seen if the upbeat Indian footballers under foreign coach can fashion a miracle.
