NEW DELHI, MAY 3: Jessica Lal’s sister and a group of her friends met Lieutenant Governor Vijay Kapur and Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern range) Amodh Kanth this afternoon.

“They have told us in very certain terms that there is no political pressure on them and they have assured us that they are trying their best to trace the guilty,” said Sabrina, Jessica’s sister.

The group had expressed apprehension that the only reason the investigation was running into problems was that the suspect was related to a political leader and that the eyewitnesses were scared to give their statements.

“However, we were convinced at the end of the meeting that despite all odds, they are doing their best,” said Sabrina.

The family said that though they know who the eyewitnesses were, they could not convince them to come forward because no one including the police can guarantee their safety or anonymity. So far, only one eyewitness has given a written statement to the police regarding the identity of thekiller.

“We are only here as common citizens, as a family of a person killed in a callous, senseless way. We have no political connections,” said Madhulika Dalvi, one of the friends.

Jessica’s eyes live on

Though Jessica is no more, her eyes are going to live. Even though she had not officially pledged her eyes, her family and friends decided to donate her eyes to two needy people. One was a 68-year-old man who was operated on Sunday at the Sachdeva Eye Clinic in Green Park. The other was a 45-year-old woman who received the eye through the Venu Eye Bank. She had lost her eyesight because of a chicken-pox attack.
