Union HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi today reassured technocrats that institutes like the IIT or the IIM will always be managed by professionals and not people ‘‘with political linkages’’.
Addressing the first international meet of the Alumni Association of National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Joshi said that ‘‘none of these institutions were at present under political management’’.
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement in Kanpur last week that five more IITs will be created by upgradaing existing NITs or RECs, Joshi said that the upgradation will be done in a phased and gradual manner. HRD officials later said that a committee ha been set up to study the infrastructure in these institutes.
He added that no one with political connections was managing the IITs, IIMs, the incumbents were either scientists, technocrats or industrialists.
