Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that allowing bowlers to straighten their arms by up to 15 degrees will make life easier for all. ‘‘Whether they are off-spinners or fast bowlers, all will be happy with this ruling and can now bowl whatever they feel like bowling without having to worry about being reported’’, Harbhajan told The Sunday Express.
‘‘My bowling is more about my wrist control than my elbow; it has more to do with my wrist locking than my elbow straightening’’, he said.
However, he said it would obviously benefit bowlers who won’t be worried about degrees anymore and will concentrate more on their bowling.
Harbhajan was reported at the end of the second Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong on December 20 and will have to undergo a session with biomechanics expert Bruce Elliot in Australia next week.
He is, however, in the dark about his status after the new ruling and said he had not undergone a biomechanical test even when the ICC sent him to former England spinner Fred Titmus in 1999 for ‘corrective’ coaching.
‘‘I bowled there for two days and got a few tips from Titmus about how my body was opening up at the time of delivery which gave the illusion of my arm bending’’, he said. ‘‘But at least no one will feel singled out.’’
