NEW DELHI, Jan 9: Renowned litterateur and columnist (`With Malice Towards One and All') has finally found someone towards whom he has no malice: young filmmaker Pamela Rooks.For Rooks has fulfilled one of Khushwant Singh's most cherished dreams, with the impending release in theatres of the screen version of his novel `Train To Pakistan', which is based in the backdrop of the partition.Addressing a press meet last evening, the author said that earlier several people had promised to make a film on the novel, prominent among them being Shashi Kapoor and Shabana Azmi, who had even prepared a screenplay. But ultimately, it was given up as being too sensitive a subject.Pamela Rooks said that the film version has only one visual and few audio cuts, compared to the earlier version telecast on Star Plus, which had a large number of cuts. She pointed out that when she first decided to make the film, several people wondered how a woman could handle the subject. She expressed the hope that they will changetheir view, especially considering that the film had been released in the United States, Sri Lanka and on Channel Four in the United Kingdom. It also was shown in several international film festivals.
