The government on Friday said pharmaceutical drug prices will remain frozen at current level this fiscal, for which an assurance has been received from industry.

A committee has been created to examine margins in drug sales and submit a report within a month, Chemicals Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said after a 90-minute meeting with the Indian Pharmaceutial Alliance (IPA).‘‘The issue of drug pricing has been taken up with manufacturers and they have agreed not to hike prices till March 31,’’ Paswan said.

He said the manufacturers have agreed that there was no need to hike the prices of medicines for the next seven months. All drugs will be covered by the seven-month price freeze. — (PTI)
