PUNE, March 5: Even as the Commissioner of Sales Tax, Maharashtra, Subodh Kumar, yesterday emphasised that there would be no compulsions for small savings from the sales tax department and agreed to consider the option of a bank guarantee, he maintained that since the recent notices issued to the industry for additional security deposit for "C" forms fell under the Central Sales Tax Act, changes could be made only by the Union government.

Addressing a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Subhodh Kumar sought to remind the industry that the government needed resources for development and guidelines on the issue would be issued by headquarters. Kumar who addressed a similar meeting late in the day clarified that the notices issued by the department were preliminary and hence no payment was required immediately.
