Nagpur, April 19: The recent decision of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to invite a Pune-based theatre group to perform street plays in the city to spread the message of cleanliness, has drawn flak from various quarters. The Sarathi group and the Akhil Bhartiya Natya Parishad have criticised the NMC decision in strong words, saying that the city had plenty of talent to perform such shows.

The Pune-based Lalit Kala Sanstha would be performing approximately 25 street play shows in various parts of the city to educate people on the merits of cleanliness. The first show of this street play was inaugurated by Mayor Devendra Phadnavis on Thursday at Ganeshpeth Bus Terminus.

Condemning the decision, Amar Vazalwar of Sarathi said such practices by the NMC would prove detrimental to the cultural growth of the region. He said since the NMC was meant for development, it should have organised such shows with the help of local talent. This would have encouraged them and helped them financially too, Vazalwarsaid. President of the Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Natya Parishad, Girish Gandhi has also criticised the NMC move.
