Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Laloo Prasad Yadav today refused to be drawn into a discussion on Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan being projected as a chief ministerial candidate in Bihar. Laloo said, ‘‘It will be known in the battle of ballots in February.’’
JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar recently said that Paswan could be a chief ministerial candidate in the event of a tie-up between the JD(U) and the LJP. Nitish Kumar has been openly talking about the LJP and the JD(U) alliance.
Paswan, in turn, has also said that he is willing to form an alliance with the JD(U), but not with the BJP. Paswan’s aim is to form an alliance that would give an alternative to minorities in the state. The JD(U) is also deeply divided on the issue of a broadbased alliance with Paswan.
‘‘It’s all a hotch potch. There is no clear picture emerging of the alliances that will take shape eventually,’’ said a leader from Bihar. Paswan has been hitting out at the RJD, a member of the UPA, and talking about the need to cobble together an anti-RJD alliance.
RJD MP Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today hit out at LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan and said that he should resign from ministership. ‘‘He is talking to the NDA in Bihar and, at the Centre, he is in the UPA. Is that practical? He should resign from ministership,’’ said Singh.
