Accepting the central paramilitary forces are stretched beyond their limits and that its men suffer from severe mental stress, the Home Ministry has created a separate ‘‘medical corps’’ for the forces.
The move is aimed at providing better medical facilities to eight lakh central paramilitary force personnel and also their family members, estimated to be about 30 lakh.
The ministry has merged medical facilities and infrastructure of all eight forces, creating a common pool that caters to the men and their families. The medical facilities will now be called ‘‘Central Paramilitary Force Hospital’’. The facilities include nine BSF hospital, 21 CRPF hospitals, three of the ITBP and one each of the Assam Rifles, NSG and the SSB.
The financial liability will be brone by both the Home Ministry and the end-users of the forces.
