SEPT 24: In a bid to provide directional change to the profession of company secretaries (CS) both in employment and in practice, the Institution of company secretaries of India (ICSI) has designed a new syllabus. The new curriculum, to be implemented shortly, would meet the aspirations and expectations of trade and industry, ICSI president, J Sridhar, told reporters here last night. The changed syllabus would not only equip a new generation of company secretaries with the latest information but also enable them to deliver solutions keeping in mind the challenges of the new millennium, he said.Sridhar said a sincere endeavour had been made to introduce a syllabus, which encompassed the propounding areas for a company secretary and new developments against the backdrop of the WTO, liberalisation and globalisation. The ISCI council has also decided to change the pattern of company secretary examination papers, in order to test the students more and help the development of analytical, legal and business minds, capable of taking an integrated view rather than merely an academic one, he said.On-line testing through automated computer-based examinations to measure the competence of candidates in certain areas would also be introduced in due course, Sridhar said.Sridhar said that to render efficient and quick services to nearly two lakh CS students, the institute has initiated decentralisation of student related activities at regional and chapter levels.
