NEW DELHI, NOV 18: Industrialist and former BJP Member of Parliament Viren Shah will be the new Governor of West Bengal, Chief Minister Jyoti Basu said Thursday.
Basu told reporters after a 15-minute meeting with Home Minister L K Advani the Union Government has proposed Shah as the New Governor and "it is acceptable to me".
Replying to questions, Basu said, "They (the Centre) proposed his name and I agreed."
"Advani had spoken to me last night in this regard and I had accepted it then itself," he said.
The veteran Marxist leader said he would meet Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee here on Sunday to discuss various problems relating to West Bengal.
